In addition Villa Maria was delighted to also receive two trophies and the Heritage Rose Bowl as well as eleven gold medals for its wines at the same show.
The Heritage Rose Bowl was awarded to Villa Maria's Reserve Hawkes Bay Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot based on its 2010, 2006 and 2002 vintages. This category was introduced in 2011 to identify and reward wines that have evidenced a capacity to develop grace and complexity over time. Commenting on the award, chair of judges Kate Radburn described this wine as "the absolute stand-out winner," reflecting the producer's relentless commitment to both quality and consistency.
Sir George commented on the success, "Winning the Heritage Rose Bowl reflects our consistency in quality and style and reinforces the importance of cellaring potential that is often overlooked in New Zealand's relatively young wine industry."
