Grant Burge 20 Yr Old Tawny - named best in world at Decanter World Wine Awards...

Grant Burge has again conquered the world of wine, last night winning the International Trophy for theBest Sweet Fortified Wine at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London for a record fourth time.

Sweeping aside all of the international competition, Grant Burge wines from the Barossa Valley inAustralia can now lay claim to being the heartland of fortified wine production - not the Douro Valley in Portugal.

Since its inception in 2004 Grant Burge has now won this prestigious and highly coveted fortified trophy four times. No other winery has ever even held the award twice and this title firmly establishes Grant Burge wines as the 'King of Fortified' wines internationally.

The International Trophy was given to the Grant Burge 20 Year Old Tawny for the Sweet Fortified over £10 category, also awarded in 2004, 2007 and 2010 along with a string of gold medals and regional trophies.

Grant Burge says the long tradition of Australian wine fortification has always been an integral part of his family business and will continue to be a driving force for many years to come.

"I remember from an early age my grandfather making port, it's something close to my heart that Iassociate with my family heritage. To receive acknowledgment for something I love doing is magnificent," Grant said.

"This is the seventeenth award we've received for our fortifieds since the awards started back in 2004.And it's not just good for us, to see the Barossa recognised internationally for fortifieds is pretty special - I hope we'll see more of this for years to come.""We'll be definitely celebrating with a little tipple of 20 Year Old Tawny in the Barossa today."

Decanter rated the 20 Year Old Tawny 5 stars, with the following notes:Oranges and walnut polish on a sweet, fresh tawny port style. Nutty and raisiny with tea leaf, tiramasu, almonds and barrel-aged complexity to seamless, intense fruitiness. A great example of Australian fortified wine.

The world's single biggest wine competition, the Decanter World Wine Awards receives more than 14,120 entries from 47 wine producing countries.
