13th May 2013: Last night, the stars and creators of the best of UK Television gathered at the Royal Festival Hall as the winners of the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards in 2013 were announced. Champagne Taittinger and Villa Maria Estate wines from New Zealand, official Champagne and wine partners to BAFTA, were on hand to help the glittering guests to celebrate.
Champagne Taittinger, official Champagne Partner to the British Academy for the 11th year running, was the toast of the evening at the ceremony hosted by Graham Norton. As New Zealand's most awarded winery for more than 30 years, Villa Maria makes a very fitting Official Wine Partner to the Academy. Guests at the glamorous awards dinner and after-party enjoyed Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011.
The multi-talented and much-loved Comedian and Travel Presenter, Michael Palin CBE, received a standing ovation as he was presented with the Fellowship at this year's Awards. Awarded annually, the BAFTA Fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed upon an individual in recognition of their outstanding and exceptional contribution to television. Recent Fellows include Sir Trevor McDonald, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, and Sir David Jason.
Clare Balding, television presenter and journalist, was presented with the Special Award which recognises the year's most important personal contribution on screen in factual television and was given in appreciation of Clare's incredible dedication to presenting across entertainment and sporting events
Exclusive BAFTA labelled Magnums and 75cl bottles of Champagne Taittinger Brut Réserve, were produced to be served at the ceremony and all nominees were presented with official gift bags containing bottles of Taittinger in stylish gift boxes and invitations to visit the Villa Maria winery in Auckland for a VIP tour.
