Artistic Director of The Old Vic, Kevin Spacey, said "I am immensely proud of what The Old Vic has achieved over the past 10 years of The 24 Hour Plays® Celebrity Gala. We have raised funds to directly engage with over 50,000 young people via Old Vic New Voices projects. OVNV is about inspiring remarkable young talent and opening up our theatre to the next generation. I am grateful to all who have been involved in the past decade of The 24 Hour Plays¨ at The Old Vic since 2004."
The event, produced in partnership with The 24 Hour Company, sees established performers, writers, and directors come together to create six new plays in just 24 hours. This adrenaline-fuelled event kicks off at 10pm the night before when the performers, writers and directors meet at The Old Vic for the first time. Everyone is invited to share a nugget of information about themselves or volunteer an object that may be used as a prop – all of which may be used by the writers as inspiration for their plays. Following an all-night writing session at London’s newest luxury 5* hotel Rosewood London, a day of intensive rehearsals and line-learning took place in and around The Old Vic, where six brand new plays were unveiled on the Sunday night.
Over 150 actors, 40 writers and 40 directors have taken part in The 24 Hour Plays® Celebrity Gala to date.
