Villa Maria has picked up three blue-gold medals for its Marlborough wines at the Sydney International Wine Competition 2014
Blue-Gold - Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Blue-Gold/Top 100 - Villa Maria Reserve Wairau Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Blue-Gold / Top 100 - Villa Maria Single Vineyard Southern Clays Pinot Noir 2010
Senior Marlborough Winemaker Jeremy McKenzie said the awards are a great recognition of the team's achievements, "2013 was an outstanding vintage and the grapes couldn't have been better. In the winery we had to take extra care to ensure we made the most of the outstanding job our viticulture teams did and I certainly think we achieved an excellent result, that's backed up with this result. As for the Southern Clays Pinot Noir, this is a wine close to my heart and probably one of my all-time favourites, so I'm thrilled with the award," he said.
Since its inception in 1982, the Sydney International Wine Competition has focused on seeking out wines of the highest quality that go well with food, and placing the best wines into thirteen easy to understand wine styles, sufficient to meet most dining requirements.
Wines which are blue-gold award winners can also be top 100 award winners. Top 100 wines carry the distinction of being placed amongst the highest pointed 5 per cent of wines from the thirteen style categories. Trophy announcements will be made on 8th March 2014.
