January 27th saw the arrival of the latest edition to the family of Alpacas that live on the Caliterra estate, she "who is yet to be named" joins Merry, Candela and Chocolatine who have been born on the estate over the last two years
In line with its sustainable practice Caliterra introduced the Alpacas six years ago (in 2008) and today they form a herd of two males and eleven females, as well as the new four calves.
They live freely in the vineyards and carry out important roles on the estate, such as eating the weeds that could hinder the development of the vines throughout the year therefore helping to reduce the amount of herbicides needed reducing them by upto 10%. They also provide and excellent manure to fertilize any vines with vigor problems. Their wool is also used by the employees at Caliterra.
