Joseph Mellot Wins Top Award at the 2014 Women and Wines of the World International Competition™

Leading Loire winemaking family, Joseph Mellot, has won a Diamond medal and was awarded the highest score for its La Chatellenie Sancerre 2013 at the recent Women and Wines of the World International Competition™ in Monaco.   Another of its wines - the Pouilly Fumé, Le Troncsec 2013 - was also awarded a bronze medal.

Now in its eighth year the Women and Wines of The World International Competition™ (Femmes et Vins du Monde - Concours International™) is open to wines from all countries and all viticultural regions with a specified geographical denomination.  Judged exclusively by women, it aims to distinguish those wines of outstanding quality that are exceptionally expressive of their appellation or origin.

Joseph Mellot’s President, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot, comments, ‘We are absolutely thrilled with this result. Particularly that one of our wines has been awarded the top score in an international competition that encourages women and highlights their professions in the world of wine and winemaking at an international level.’

Deeply rooted in the heart of Sancerre, the history of Joseph Mellot spans 500 years and several generations of the Mellot family. Founded by Pierre Etienne Mellot in 1513 the family-run estate is now headed by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot and is one of Sancerre's largest and highly regarded producers.

Joseph Mellot currently sells a range of Loire wines in the UK from six AOC regions.  A full selection of their wines is available from Hatch Mansfield.
