Leading Rioja winery, Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana (C.V.N.E), is set to house an exhibition by world-renowned Spanish sculptor, Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002), from 9th April to 30th October 2014. Entitled ‘The wind we do not see,’ it is the first time his work will be exhibited in a winery.
Believed to be one of the foremost pioneers of modern sculpture, Chillida is internationally renowned for his abstract sculptures which have been collected by major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Tate Britain in London.. The Cune Winery exhibition consists of eight sculptures, specifically selected to be shown at the winery. The title ‘Chillida. The wind we do not see’ - denotes the artist's fascination with nature. Drawing on the parallels between art and winemaking, the exhibit’s intent is to evoke emotion through sensual interpretation and a deeper understanding of the created world.
Maria Urrutia, Marketing Director at C.V.N.E comments: “Nature and the environment are also crucial to the production of a great wine. In this sense, winemaking, like art demands passion and drive, knowledge of tradition, attention to detail and a disciplined understanding of materials and physical processes. Through Chillida’s stunning works we are aiming to illustrate the synergies between nature, art and wine making.”
Guests are invited to roam the beautiful vineyards and gardens at the Cune Winery and enjoy the collection of sculptures carefully positioned throughout the estate. Guests can continue the tour by visiting the Cune Wine Cellar for a glass of Cune Reserva. There are two types of visits on offer:

C.V.N.E is one of the oldest wineries in Rioja but it still remains firmly in family control. Founded by brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, in Haro, Rioja, in 1879, it has been expanded within the region and now has two other wineries in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region, namely Viña Real (founded 1920) and Viñedos del Contino (founded 1973).
