Some of the great and the good of the UK wine trade attended a special Viña Errázuriz dinner, hosted by Eduardo Chadwick, at none other than the Ledbury last night - number 10 of the 50 Best Restaurants Of The World 2014. The dinner was organised as a celebration of how far Chilean fine wine has come, and as a thank you to friends for their help with Eduardo’s vision of putting premium Chilean wines on the map, and in establishing the region as a world-class appellation.
Promoting Chile’s potential for making world-class wines has been a huge passion of Eduardo’s since the early 1980s, when he took the helm of the family-winery. His journey has included several important milestones, such as the fact that Don Maximiano was the first Chilean wine to win a gold medal in the International Wine Challenge, the development of Aconcagua Costa, and the famous Berlin Tasting, at which Eduardo’s flagship wines - Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve, Seña, and Viñedo Chadwick – stood up proudly alongside some of the best wines in the world. This blind tasting initiative toured 17 countries since 2004, and in 2011 vertical tastings were introduced to demonstrate how well Chilean fine wines evolve and improve with age.
Patrick McGrath, Managing Director of Hatch Mansfield (sole UK agent for Viña Errázuriz) comments, ‘Eduardo has been a champion of Chilean premium wines and their potential for many years and the Berlin and Seña vertical tastings that he organised dramatically changed perceptions of Chilean fine wine worldwide. This dinner was a great opportunity to bring members of the wine trade together again and for Eduardo to thank them for their help and support in establishing Chile’s place amongst the world’s greatest wine appellations.’
