Several Villa Maria white wines have picked up awards, announced at the nternational Cool Climate Wine Show 2014 including the trophy for Pinot Gris.
Villa Maria’s top awards included:
Best Pinot Gris Trophy – Villa Maria Private Bin East Coast Pinot Gris 2013
Gold Medal – Villa Maria Private Bin East Coast Pinot Gris 2013
Gold Medal – Villa Maria Cellar Selection Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013
Gold Medal – Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc 2013
It’s the second year Villa Maria has taken out the Pinot Gris Trophy (the last time in 2011) and of the three gold medal winners in the category, two were Villa Maria wines.
News of the awards reached Villa Maria winemaker David Roper, just a week before a scheduled trip to Australia on a promotional trip, “Pinot Gris is our number two white wine in terms of volume that we export into Australia, so it’s great to have this quality reinforcement, I’m looking forward to sharing the news while I’m there”, he said.
The International Cool Climate Wine Show was developed to raise the profile of high quality cool climate wines. Entries are received mainly from Australian and New Zealand producers, as stringent entry criteria dictate that wine entries must be made from grapes grown either: South of latitude 37.5 degrees South, or North of latitude 37.5 degrees North or from a property in the Southern or Northern hemisphere which has an average January/July (whichever is applicable) temperature below 19 degrees Celsius.
Private Bin Pinot Gris is known by its better recognised alias of Pinot Grigio in the UK.
