Vidal Estate, one of New Zealand’s oldest wineries, is launching a classic new look for the three tiers in its range to reflect the producer’s 109 years of heritage, quality and provenance. Head Winemaker Hugh Crichton is in the UK this week to unveil the new labels to key customers.
The top tier, Vidal Legacy wines, will feature textured, cream coloured labels and include a matt paper cigar band showing the number of barriques made, while the Vidal Reserve and newly named Vidal Estate ranges (previously White Series) will have sleek dark grey and clean white labels respectively. Front labels across all ranges will include the brand story with an explanation of who Founder Anthony Joseph Vidal is and back labels are concise and easy to read.
Hugh Crichton comments: ‘I am very proud of our new label design, the team have worked hard to ensure we have captured Anthony Joseph Vidal’s heritage, our premium quality and winemaking philosophy in the new design.’
New labels for the Vidal Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2014 will hit UK shelves in time for Christmas, while all other wines will change with vintage rollovers. A new website will also be launching in October alongside the label changes. www.vidal.co.nz
Vidal Legacy wines are the highly awarded flagship range, sourced from the best vineyards and available in limited quantities.
Vidal Reserve wines including the new Chardonnay which was launched earlier this year, are elegant and distinctive wines offering true regional identity.
Vidal Estate wines are approachable wines, showcasing classic New Zealand character.
Vidal Estate was established by young Spaniard Anthony Joseph Vidal who arrived in New Zealand in 1888 to join his uncle Joseph Soler to master the art of winemaking. Developing a passion for the craft, Vidal went solo setting up in Hawkes Bay in 1905, planting grapes in the best locations. The essence of Anthony Joseph Vidal’s legacy is reflected in Vidal Estate’s head winemaker, Hugh Crichton’s, love for producing classic, elegant, styled wines. Crichton’s natural hands off winemaking approach, allows the vineyard and season to shine through in every vintage.
