Historic 99 Points for Seña

Historic 99 Points for Seña

Seña 2013 achieves the highest recognition in the history of Chilean wine.

Santiago, July 7th, 2015.  Seña, Chile’s first icon wine, created in 1995 from a heart-felt pioneering partnership between Viña Errázuriz and Robert Mondavi, has just obtained 99 points, the highest score ever achieved by a Chilean wine.

Following his recent visit to Chile, during which he tasted more than 500 wines from different valleys, the influential wine critic James Suckling published his article entitled “More Great, Fresh wines from Chile ” in which he awarded the yet to be released 2013 Seña vintage 99 points.

In his report, Suckling described Seña 2013 as “Superb aromas of black currants, rose petal and mint. Lavender and stones too. Full body with incredible fruit density. Complex, yet it's agile and bright. Tannins are perfectly polished. It builds on the palate and shows the structure of a first growth Bordeaux but remains so Chilean. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 15% carmenere, 12% malbec, 10% merlot, and 5% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. This is a joy to taste now but it will show itself in 2019. Even better than the amazing 2012.   It (Seña) has all the depth of fruit, structure and intensity of a top wine from such prestigious producers as Mouton Rothschild or Harlan Estate. Plus, Seña is made from biodynamically grown grapes, giving the wine an amazing, underlying wholesomeness and holistic quality.”

Eduardo Chadwick, Owner and President of Viña Seña, commented: “I am delighted that Seña 2013 was awarded with this wonderful recognition. This is not only a great milestone for Seña, but also for all Chilean wines in our pursuit of excellence and recognition of quality at the highest world class level.

Francisco Baettig, Seña Head Winemaker, added: “Finesse and elegance are the two words that best describe Seña 2013, a perfect blend of structure, persistence, and depth along with freshness and balance. This is an excellent recognition of our team and for all their years of hard work and dedication.”
