Errazuriz Wins Best Cabernet Sauvignon at the Annual Wines of Chile Sommelier Challenge...

Errazuriz has scooped Best Cabernet Sauvignon with its Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 at the annual Wines of Chile Sommelier Challenge announced yesterday. The event, now in its fifth year, took place on Monday 19th October at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

During this tasting, Sommeliers are invited to blind taste a line-up of wines from Chile and other countries in 6 categories and choose those they would be happy to put on their wine list.

The categories were:

  • Sauvignon Blanc

  • Chardonnay

  • Pinot Noir

  • Cabernet Sauvignon

  • Other Red Varietals & Red Blends

  • By the glass

Guest sommeliers taking part in the Sommelier Chile Challenge came from some of the UK's finest establishments including Drakes, Gymkhana, Sat Bains, The Savoy, Sketch and 67 Pall Mall.  They tasted blind over 70 wines arranged in flights either by variety or wine list theme.

Over 120 Chilean wines entered for the challenge this year with the final shortlist selected by Ronan Sayburn MS and on-trade consultant Martin Lam. Other non-Chilean wines tasted were either Sommelier Wine Award winners or from leading on-trade suppliers.

Caliterra also enjoyed success in this category, being awarded  2nd place for its Tributo Cabernet Sauvignon 2012.

Other notable achievements came from both Errazuriz and Caliterra who were shortlisted in the following categories:

Sauvignon Blanc category:

  • Errázuriz Aconcagua Costa Sauvignon Blanc 2014

Pinot Noir category:

  • Errázuriz Wild Ferment Pinot Noir 2014

‘Red blends and other Red Varietals’ Category:
