Another reason Esk Valley wine enjoys cult-like following

Ever since Esk Valley Estate started making its dry and vibrantly coloured Hawkes Bay Rosé in the 90s, it has enjoyed a cult-like following and in recognition of the serious quality this wine embodies, the 2015 vintage has picked up a varietal trophy at this year’s Royal New Zealand Easter Show Wine Awards 2016.

Esk Valley also picked up the Champion Other Varieties Trophy for its Hawkes Bay Verdelho 2015.

Esk Valley has built an extremely strong reputation for producing one of New Zealand’s best Rosés. “It has real point of difference to many others on the market, forget lolly water, this is a serious wine utilising merlot to achieve a vibrant crimson hue that is Esk Valley’s signature,” said Winemaker Gordon Russell.

“In addition to the Rosé trophy, which is wonderful, it’s a great result for our Verdelho, a unique varietal we’ve been making since 2002. It’s another one receiving cult-like following and we couldn’t be happier,” he said.

This is the 63rd year of the Royal New Zealand Easter Show Wine Awards, the oldest wine competition in the country.
