The winner of Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year 2016, a category of Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2016, was announced at a packed reception at the Mall Galleries, London, last night, Tuesday 26 April 2016, as Robert Holmes (USA) for his stunning image, Mayasara Winery.
He won £1000 presented by Sophie Wren, Brand Manager UK for Errazuriz, Chile’s leading family winery and sponsor of the category. Judges were Eduardo Chadwick, President and owner of Errazuriz Winery, Joanna Simon, Wine & Food Editor, House & Garden, Abby Hocking, Photo Editor, Food&Wine, Time Inc, Sarah Kemp, Publisher of Decanter, and Yasia Willams, Art Director, Octopus Publishing Group.
Robert’s winning shot had scooped the Place section, while Matt Wilson (Chile) won the People section with Skin Contact and Jenelle Bonifeld (USA) took top place with Grenache Pressing, Washington, in the Produce section. Robert also receives a year’s supply of Errazuriz wine.
“The competition was intensely fierce,” says Wren, “there were over 7000 images and films entered into the awards internationally and the standard was phenomenal. Robert’s image stood out from the rest in this category, however, for its beautiful lighting and atmosphere, which takes you right into the picture.”
The evening was compered by chair of the judges, journalist and food critic, Jay Rayner, and took place in front of more than 400 people at the Champagne Taittinger reception, many of whom had flown in from across the world for the occasion, from Italy, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Holland, Australia and more.
Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year is the world’s leading celebration of the art of food photography and film. In its fifth year, 30,000 entries have been submitted since its inception.
Judges include: David Loftus, Jamie Oliver’s photographer, Ruth Rogers, Curtis, Australia’s culinary superstar, Emily Luchetti, Chair, James Beard Foundation, NYC, Nik Powell, Director, National Film & Television School.
