World's Best Food for Celebration Photography Unwrapped

The winner of the Food for Celebration category sponsored by Champagne Taittinger was announced at a packed Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2016 reception at the Mall Galleries, London, last night, Tuesday 26 April, as Shoeb Faruquee (Bangladesh) for his stunning image, The Grand Kitchen.

“The competition was intensely fierce,” says Andy Macdonald, who heads up Pink Lady® in the UK, headline sponsor of the awards, “there were over 7000 images and films entered internationally and the standard was phenomenal".

Shoeb’s shot stood out from the rest in its category, however, for the way in which he made the subject matter – a hectic kitchen preparing a wedding feast in Bangladesh  – both captivating and beautiful.”

The evening was compered by chair of the judges, journalist and food critic, Jay Rayner, and took place in front of more than 400 people at the Champagne Taittinger reception, many of whom had flown in from across the world for the occasion, from America, India, South Africa, Italy and more.

Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year is the world’s leading celebration of the art of food photography and film. In its fifth year, 30,000 entries have been submitted since its inception. There are 28 different winning categories and an overall winner. This year’s winner is the joyful shot of a baker having fun with flour while making bread by British photographer Mark Benham. Benham was presented with the £5000 prize at the award ceremony.

Judges include: Vitalie Taittinger, Marketing Director Champagne Taittinger, David Loftus, Jamie Oliver’s photographer, Ruth Rogers, Curtis Stone, Australia’s culinary superstar, Emily Luchetti, Chair, James Beard Foundation, NYC, Nik Powell, Director, National Film & Television School.
