C.V.N.E (“Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España) winery Contino reinforced its reputation as a leading premium Rioja producer and adds to its collection of awards following its phenomenal success at The Wines from Spain Awards 2016.
At the awards ceremony last Wednesday 16th November, in the illustrious setting of the Spanish Embassy in London, Contino Reserva 2010 achieved the outstanding recognition of being awarded, “Best Red in Show”.
The Contino Reserva 2010 and Contino Viña del Olivo 2010 were also jointly awarded ‘Best Rioja’.
Jesus Madrazo’s winemaking philosophy, combined with the specificity of the Contino single estate terroir are at the centre of this success. Contino was established in 1973 as the first single estate in Rioja, producing a small selection of wines including the prized Graciano and Viña del Olivo which is regarded as one of the best wines of modern Spain. Jesus Madrazo, son of the founder, strives to be at the forefront of Riojan fine winemaking whilst preserving established traditions.
The Wines from Spain jury was comprised of 15 members of the U.K wine trade, presided over by wine journalist and expert Tim Atkin MW. The Wines from Spain Awards 2016 is the only competition devoted exclusively to Spain’s wines. The Awards are seen to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting Spanish wines available in the UK to both the trade and consumers.
The following C.V.N.E wines also featured in the Wines from Spain winners list
- CVNE Viña Real Barrel Fermented Blanco 2015
- CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 2008
