A step Into the Future With Decanter Men of the Year, Eduardo Chadwick and Steven Spurrier ...

Wine visionaries Steven Spurrier and Eduardo Chadwick are joining forces again to host Into the Future masterclasses in London and Paris this month.

This is the start of a new global initiative by Spurrier and Chadwick, who have helped the world expand their knowledge of fine wines.  They will showcase top examples of two world class appellations of the future – the best of British sparkling wines coupled with Chile’s finest.  The duo has seen success in previous worldwide tastings.  This included Steven’s The Judgment of Paris of 1976 and their series of Berlin Tastings, launched in 2004, highlighting Chilean terroirs worldwide on 22 occasions reaching 1,400 global wine lovers. Both events were milestones in the recognition of Napa and Chile as world class appellations.

In London tomorrow, they will co-host a masterclass at 67 Pall Mall, pitching wines from Viña Seña and Viña Errázuriz, (awarded ‘Best Chilean Winery of the Year’ in 2017 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate), alongside Steven’s own English Sparkling wine, Bride Valley and two of his favourite English sparkling wines.

They will then travel to Paris for an event with Spurrier’s L’Académie du Vin at Taillevent Restaurant, where they will present a similar line up of wines, moderated by Georges Lepre and Antoine Petrus. There is potential to repeat the tasting on a global stage in Tokyo and Beijing.

Comments Steven Spurrier, “This promises to be a very exciting masterclass and I am honoured to be championing English wines. I have long been a great advocate of the quality of wines being produced on English soils. There are so many similarities between South England and Champagne - same soil, same grape varieties and cool climate.  I believe that with the investment being put into English vineyards, with approximately 1.5 million vines being planted in the UK this year and 6,200 acres already under vine, that they have exciting potential for the future.

Adds Eduardo Chadwick, President of Viña Errázuriz and Seña wineries, “It has been my dream to obtain recognition for Chile as a world class appellation and events like the Berlin Tasting have consistently opened the eyes of fine wine lovers towards Chilean wines. Thanks to these landmark

events the Aconcagua Valley and Maipo appellations are now firmly recognized amongst the fine wine regions of the world such as Bordeaux, Tuscany and Napa and this makes me happy.

The tasting will include:

  • 2014 Bride Valley Rosé Bella, Dorset (Spurrier’s wine)
  • NV Nyetimber Classic Cuvée, Sussex
  • 2010 Wiston Estate Blanc de Blancs, Sussex
  • 2014 Errázuriz Don Maximiano Founders Reserve
  • 2013 Seña
  • 2009 Viñedo Chadwick (the first 100 Point wine from Chile, James Suckling)
  • 2010 Errázuriz Kai
  • 2016 Errazuriz Las Pizarras Chardonnay
  • 2016 Errazuriz Las Pizarras Pinot Noir
