The whole winemaking process is under the watchful eye of Eileen Crane,President and Chief winemaker. Eileen has an impressive history. She is one of a handful of women who are at the forefront of the wine industry in California. She started her career with a master's degree in nutrition, coupled with professional training at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and went on to complete a programme in Enology and Viticulture at U.C Davis. On completion of this she joined Domaine Chandon and went on to become their Assistant Winemaker.
Her next project was with Gloria Ferrer, overseeing the design and construction of their sparkling wine facitilty as Winemaker and Vice President. With this experience firmly under her belt she then went on to oversee the planning and development of Domaine Carneros .
Eileen's aim is to create an elegant, delicate yet intense style. She is supported by TJ Evans, Pinot Noir Winemaker. TJ Evans joined the Domaine Carneros winemaking team in May 2008 to head up the still wine production, with emphasis on Pinot Noir. He had just returned from Chile where he spent 3 years developing a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir ranch at the southern end of Chile's winegrowing regions. Pinot Noir has been the common theme throughout his career. After completing his MS at UC Davis in 1997 he began his career at La Crema winery in the Russian River, California. The next stop was Dry Creek where he continued to work with Pinot Noir and also crafted Zinfandels for Alderbrook winery.
"Domaine Carneros was an easy choice because I knew I could apply my 10 years of Pinot experience to the still wines while also integrating the use of Pinot Noir in a way new to me - the production of sparkling wine", commented TJ.
