The Vidal winery is situated on the original site in Hastings, Hawkes Bay, which was purchased by its founder Anthony Joseph Vidal back in 1905. The winery itself is a combination of old and new. Modern state-of-the-art technology is used in conjunction with traditional winemaking techniques and some original elements of the building are used for Chardonnay fermentation and maturation.
Vidal's restaurant has been a popular destination since opening its doors in 1979. Open seven days for lunch and dinner, the atmosphere is one of relaxed sophistication. A talented team in the kitchen share a food philosophy of fresh and simple dishes using really good produce. The focus is on creating clean simple flavours using New Zealand fresh, seasonal, organic ingredients and taking inspiration from classical methods and dishes. Adjacent to the winery, the restaurant even cultivates its own organic vegetable garden. Vidal's comprehensive wine list, which showcases recent and aged Vidal wines as well as other top New Zealand wines, is created to perfectly complement the dishes.
