Robert Oatley 2017 Vintage Report

2017 was a strong vintage; despite some tricky weather that could have been problematic in certain areas, we are very happy with the end results. The South Australia vintage was excellent, with McLaren Vale producing well-balanced, good crop with fantastic colour and flavour and the Barossa reds also being very satisfactory. In New South Wales whites were at optimum ripeness and Merlot and Shiraz were also excellent. Yarra Valley Pinot Noirs are showing great concentration and more complexity than previous years. In Western Australia, rain in March proved challenging but not fatal with highly aromatic whites with good, fresh acid. The reds have plenty of colour and bright flavours. All in all 2017 came with its fair share of challenges but we were rewarded with excellent wines.

Robert Oatley 2016 Vintage Report

A very pleasing vintage across the board with good winter rains in Margaret River followed by dry weather until a good fall in January and then continuing above average rainfall through to March. Chardonnay and Cabernet, in particular, were superb.

Robert Oatley 2015 Vintage Report

Whilst Western Australia experienced a somewhat challenging vintage due to unwanted rainfall, bird pressure and low yields, the rest of Australia recorded a great to outstanding vintage.

Robert Oatley 2014 Vintage Report

A story of east versus west with the challenges of the eastern states (low yields, major rain and a heatwave) balanced by some of the best growing conditions ever experienced in Western Australia.
