Estate Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Maipo / Aconcagua Valley

This wine displays an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals aromas of red fruit and black fruit with some balsamic tones, which complements with notes of vanilla, clove, cherry and plums. It has a soft palate, fine-grained tannins, and refreshing acidity.

The grapes for the Estate Series Cabernet Sauvignon come from selected vineyards that grow in the Aconcagua and Maipo Valleys. Vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley are close to the Pacific Ocean’s coast, on rolling hills at an altitude of 100 to 300 meters above sea level. Of Mediterranean climate, the valley has moderately warm summer days and fresh evening breezes, which produces temperature oscillation of approximately 20°C during the weeks prior to harvest, which allows the development of intense colours and ripe flavours. The Maipo Valley, of Mediterranean climate also, is well known for the fresh morning breezes that blow in from the Andes Mountains, and for the moderate day temperatures that allow grapes to reach perfect ripeness preserving their acidity and freshness.

The 2017 vintage in the interior of the Aconcagua Valley will be remembered by the hot temperatures recorded throughout the season. Nevertheless, we were able to manage this scenario favourably by a careful irrigation management in our vineyards, increasing the water supply during the hottest periods and by harvesting significantly earlier. Bud break got ahead of our records given the higher temperatures recorded during this month. Flowering also got ahead of historical dates by 10 days. As temperatures settled in December, concluding with a heat summation similar than historic, veraison adjusted to our records. Higher heat summations than average during the summer months, along with low yields due to the cold 2015 spring, set up the stage for a historically early harvest.

Grapes were harvested between the end of March and the beginning of April, and taken to the winery where they were pressed and deposited in stainless steel tanks for fermentation. The grapes had a maceration of 12 to 25 days, depending on each lot. The final blend was aged for seven months in French oak barrels in order to obtain rounded tannins and good texture on the palate.
