Estate Reserva Merlot 2018 24 x Quarter Bottles

Aconcagua Valley
  • 24 x Quarter Bottles

Intense aromas of cherries, plums and blueberries are complemented with subtle hints of bay leaves, cedar and spice. Fresh red berry fruit flavours are framed by toasted shades of mocha and bittersweet chocolate, leading to a long persistent finish.

Vineyards

The grapes for the Estate Series Merlot come from our vineyards located in the Curicó Valley, where rainy winters and dry summers characterize the regional climate. The vineyard is planted on deep clay-loam soils, typical of the terroir in Chile’s Central Valley.

Vintage

The 2017 vintage will be remembered by the hot temperatures recorded throughout the season. Nevertheless, we were able to manage this scenario favourably by a careful irrigation management in our vineyards, increasing the water supply during the hottest periods and by harvesting significantly earlier. Bud break got ahead of our records given the higher temperatures recorded during this month. Flowering also got ahead of historical dates by 10 days. As temperatures settled in December, concluding with a heat summation similar than historic, veraison adjusted to our records. Higher heat summations than average during the summer months, along with low yields due to the cold 2015 spring, set up the stage for a historically early harvest.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested in early April and taken to the winery, where they were destemmed, crushed, and deposited in stainless steel tanks. Depending on the development of each individual lot, the post-fermentative maceration lasted 10 to 25 days. 70% of the wine was kept in oak barrels for 7 months to round out its tannins and add a sweet feeling on the palate.
