From Jean-Luc's first single vineyard, 'Les Ruchets' is made from 100% Syrah. The very old vines - up to 90 years old - have roots extending some 20 metres underground. An intense, complex wine this is powerful but elegant and has the potential to age for many years. It exhibits both floral and fruity elements. Beautiful notes of violets, black fruits, spices and a hint of vanilla lead into a complex, superbly structured palate.
Grapes for this wine come from a single vineyard with south-east exposition, planted on steep granitic slopes on the right bank of the Rhône River.
2015 was an exceptionally good vintage in the Northern Rhône - especially for red varietals. The relatively wet winter and spring helped to replenish the water table that eased the hot conditions over the summer months. There was a very little rainfall between June and August but thanks to the water reserve, the grapes were very healthy and of very high quality.
After the hand-harvest, grapes are de-stemmed and vinified in controlled temperature vats with a maceration of 1 month. Then, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 20 months (50% new, 50% 1 to 2 years old barrels.)
