Strawberry, cranberry and crunchy raspberry are jubilant and excitable. They bounce off the walls with brightness and freshness. Their more serious side advocates a richer, sophisticated and slightly drier personality.
The Hawkes Bay vineyards for this wine have free draining soils which helps ensure balanced fruit and canopy growth which is essential for ripe flavours.
The 2017 to 2018 season was one of the warmest on record and a frost-free spring lead to good yields and a healthy start for the vines. Rainfall near harvest meant harvest began early but good flavour ripeness and balanced acidity was achieved.
The 2018 Left Field Rosé is a creative blend of Merlot, Pinotage and Arneis. Upon arrival at the winery, the red fruit was gently pressed to produce light pink juice with loads of flavour. Once the cloudy juice was clear, it was racked to stainless steel tank for fermentation. Fermentation was conducted at cooler temperatures to ensure the retention of bright fruit aromas and topped with a small amount of residual sugar to provide balance to the palate. The white Arneis was fermented separately and blended back with the Pinotage and Merlot Rosé to add a lovely floral aroma to the wine and freshness to the palate.
