A cause for celebration for Vidal

The festive period has started with a real bang for Vidal, in Hawke’s Bay New Zealand, which has plenty of reason to celebrate.

Vidal, part of the Villa Maria family of wineries, has enjoyed a string of successes lately, with the icing on the cake being named as Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ ‘Winery of the Year 2017’, this week. Vidal has been recognised by Raymond Chan* for producing wines that are leaders in the contemporary expressions of Chardonnay, the Bordeaux varieties and Syrah in New Zealand across their whole range of wines from the flagship Legacy wines to the accessible Estate range.

Raymond Chan says: ‘The quality of Vidal Estate wines has never been better. Much can be attributed to the passion and determination of winemaker Hugh Crichton who has guided the style development of the Vidal Estate wines for over a decade.’

This recognition follows Vidal Legacy Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2016 being awarded a trophy for Best Fuller Bodied Dry White at the 2018 Sydney International Wine Competition, last week. Vidal’s Reserve Chardonnay 2016 and Reserve Syrah 2015 were also selected in the Top 100 wines after receiving Blue Gold medals.

In addition, Vidal also received medals at this year’s Air New Zealand Wine Awards and recently enjoyed high scores from revered international wine critic James Suckling, including 95/100 for the Vidal Legacy Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2014.

Fiona Mottershaw Brand Manager of Vidal at Hatch Mansfield says: ‘We are delighted that Vidal is getting the plaudits it deserves. The winemaking team, led by Hugh Crichton, is dedicated to producing wines of an outstanding standard and value and are continuously improving and innovating with the varieties they produce. It’s great to see this being recognised by some of the most prestigious wine critics, awards and competitions out there.
