Cherubino wins the coveted IWSC 2023 Outstanding Wine Producer Award

Hatch Mansfield are delighted to share that Cherubino was given the top award of 2023 Outstanding Wine Producer at last night’s International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) awards, with the judges commenting “From vineyard to glass, they work hard to achieve the highest quality of their wines, and they put their heart and soul into every step on the way”.

Having received trophies for no less than four wines, the Cherubino Pemberton, Cherubino Margaret River, Ovale Dijon, and Ovale Gin Gin Chardonnays, Cherubino was also the winner of the White Winemaker of the Year 2023 award, after judging for this year’s event was held in Margaret River.

Cherubino was founded in 2004 by Larry Cherubino and his wife Edwina to humble beginnings with the first vintage from their first parcel of land in Edwina’s native Frankland River made in the couple’s spare room.  Since then, Cherubino’s approach to championing the potential of the Western Australian wine region has paid off, picking up a wide range of accolades over the years, such as “Winery of the Year” in the James Halliday Wine Companion as early on as 2011.

Larry Cherubino, expressed his excitement about being recognised by the IWSC in this way, saying, “We were honoured to have been shortlisted for White Winemaker of the Year in such a competitive field so winning the Outstanding Wine Producer award is an incredibly proud moment. We’re thrilled to see the uniqueness of the Western Australian wine region recognised and continue to be excited about the ability this special place has to produce exceptional Chardonnay.”

Upon the recent news of Cherubino being shortlisted, Ben Knollys, Managing Director of Hatch Mansfield commented “Congratulations to Larry and his team, we’re delighted for everyone involved and couldn’t have wished for a better endorsement so early on in our partnership with the Cherubino team.”

This achievement comes hot on the heels of the news earlier this month that Cherubino was named Winery of the Year in the Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines 2023/4 with eleven Cherubino wines featured in the report.

Larry’s influence was also recognised for his role as Director of Winemaking at Robert Oatley with their Pennant Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 also winning an IWSC Trophy in this year’s awards.
