Louis Jadot reveals winning graphic design ‘A Tale of Terroir’ by Central Saint Martins students

Maison Louis Jadot has unveiled the winning graphic design following a collaborative project with world-class art and design college Central Saint Martins.  The winners, Alice Lengerau and Joel Davies, presented their entry ‘A Tale of Terroir’ to Pierre-Henry Gagey, Président of Maison Louis Jadot, whilst on a prize trip to Beaune, Burgundy.

The winning design comprises three original woodcut prints with patterns that reflect the landscape, the soil and the climate of Louis Jadot’s Burgundian terroir.

Louis Jadot and Central Saint Martins joined forces this year for the first time, inviting students studying graphic design to create a piece of art that reflected the Louis Jadot brand values, the expression of the terroirs, and that could be used in a business capacity. The project gave students the opportunity to work on a client-based brief and gain valuable commercial experience.

Over the month-long project that was set earlier this year, students received guidance from their tutors as well as Louis Jadot representatives, who visited the college for an interim review of the seventeen projects that were presented.

“The project brief was a challenging and open one – Louis Jadot wanted the artwork to capture the imagination and creativity of these young creatives and still resonate with their devoted wine fans.  To the delight of the team, the students’ work took on many different shapes and forms.  Whilst it was tough choosing an overall winner, ‘A Tale of Terroir’ is a clever and encapsulating design and a great deal of thought and work went into creating this handcrafted piece.  Louis Jadot’s Président, Pierre-Henry Gagey, has been thrilled to welcome the winners to Burgundy, and next, together with his team, will make a plan to showcase this wonderful work of art.  So watch this space…”

Winner Alice Lengerau comments:

Our design – ‘A Tale of Terroir’ – captures the three elements that make each Burgundy wine so very special: the soil, the topography and the climate.  Joel and I chose woodcut printmaking as we felt this technique mirrors the premium quality and expert craft that Louis Jadot puts into winemaking.

They were awarded two cases of Louis Jadot wines and a trip for two to Burgundy.  Additionally, Louis Jadot has bought the IP rights to bring ‘A Tale of Terroir’ to commercial life.
