For the third year in a row Villa Maria has been named one of the most admired wine brands in the world. It is the only New Zealand winery to be in the top 10, placing fourth in this year’s “World’s Most Admired Wine Brands” list.
The list, operated by Drinks International magazine is compiled annually by polling over 200 wine industry experts including key buyers, wine writers, journalists, Masters of Wine and wine educators who consider more than 100,000 wineries. These range from highly expensive iconic wines to commercial brands coming from all regions, and their styles and qualities are rated against each other.
Villa Maria remains New Zealand’s most respected wine producer,” says editor of Drinks International Christian Davis. “It is up there with the best of them – rightly so. Personally, I have never had a bottle of Villa Maria that has disappointed. I know what I am getting when I buy a bottle of Villa Maria – and that is the essence of good branding – consistency and quality, at the appropriate price.
“George Fistonich is not only a fine winemaker but he’s a talent spotter. He has nurtured some of New Zealand’s top winemakers. I reckon there are producers in other countries that would grub up their vines to be in the position that New Zealand and Villa Maria are in the global wine world.“
“Coming in as the most admired wine brand in New Zealand shows we’re consistently maintaining quality and exceeding in all the award criteria. It’s such amazing recognition for Villa Maria as well as New Zealand and I’m incredibly proud of this achievement and that we continue to rate highly on this most prestigious of lists,” says founder and CEO of Villa Maria Estate, Sir George Fistonich.
