BAFTA Chefs inspried by the Forest Floor.

On Sunday 8th May, the winners for this year’s Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards were announced, honouring the very best programmes and performances of 2021.

A celebration of excellence, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts also likes to enjoy the party, and those tuning in to the TV awards enjoyed a taste of this glamorous night.

Amongst the pizzazz and excitement, an exclusive, sustainable dinner menu was created, inspired by the Forest Floor, with a trio of fun dishes centred around this theme.

As long-standing Official Champagne and Wine Partners to BAFTA, Champagne Taittinger and Villa Maria respectively were served to ceremony guests alongside this bespoke three course dinner:

STARTER: The Forest Floor
Miso and Artichoke Jersey Royals, Porcini Tapioca Branches, Mandarin Brown Butter, Grilled Winter Brassica Leaves, Artichoke Bark (Ve)
Paired with Champagne Taittinger Brut Reserve NV
Its elegance and lightness give these bubbles the flexibility to be the
Champagne of the moment and it is always an excellent aperitif.

MAIN: Six Signs of Sustainability
Soy Free Spring Chicken, English Peas, Broad beans, Asparagus
VEGETARIAN OPTION: MAIN Spring Garden
Cauliflower, Truffle Raviolo English Peas, Broad beans, Asparagus
Paired with Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Grigio 2020
With fresh and intense aromatics of pear, red apple and honeysuckle,
leading to a rich and textured mouthfeel and a delicious off-dry finish.

Or Villa Maria Private Bin Pinot Noir 2019
A savoury style with a lively personality, this wine expresses hints of
red cherries on the nose, along with baking spices such as clove and cinnamon.
On the palate, fruit flavours of cranberries and goji berries are intermingled with
freshly roasted coffee beans and soft cocoa-like tannins.

DESSERT: The Peoples Award
Millionaire Salted Caramel Opera Cake, Gold, 72% Sustainable Cocoa BAFTA Edible Mask

Some of the brightest stars of the small screen took a moment to raise funds on behalf of BAFTA.  Celebrities including Jodie Comer and Martin Freeman signed a special Methuselah of Champagne Taittinger Brut Réserve NV, which will be auctioned at a fundraising event.
