Vineyards

Richard Painter, Winemaker walks down a row of vines with his constant companion dog - Sam

Grapes are sourced from within the Estate as well as other premium vineyards in Gisborne, Nelson and Marlborough.

The Estate is made up of 80ha of vineyard, located on the southern edge of the Gimblett Gravels. Comprising varying soil types, stones to deep fertile silts high in organic material.  The vineyard is largely planted on a single cane trellis system at a density of between 2500 and 3000 vines per hectare.  Viticultural management focuses on ensuring an open canopy and good fruit exposure to light.

In other regions long term contract growers work closely with the viticultural team, managing vineyards sustainably to produce grapes of optimum quality, full of varietal expression and true to their origins.
